Basketball Game Preview: Warhill Lions vs. Tabb Tigers

Warhill is 2-8 against Tabb since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Warhill Lions take on the Tabb Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Warhill is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against New Kent on Wednesday. Warhill took a 77-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Kent. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Trojans are ranked 18th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Hunter Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden McLean, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Warhill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Tabb came up short against Lafayette on Wednesday and fell 66-59. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Tabb's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Warhill, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.

Warhill didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Tabb when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 53-49 win. Does Warhill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tabb turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
