Softball Recap: Torrington Victorious

Torrington took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against New Milford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Raiders had just enough and edged out the Green Wave 7-6 on Wednesday. For the Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 19-7 victory the Green Wave walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2019.

Sophia Pergola made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Julia Rinaldi and Dylan Juliano did most of the damage at the plate: Rinaldi scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Juliano scored a run while going 1-for-3. Grace Pruchnicki was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Torrington now has a winning record of 3-2. As for New Milford, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Torrington will face off against Waterbury Career Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for New Milford, they will square off against New Fairfield at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The game will give the Green Wave their first taste of in-conference action this season.
