Baseball Game Preview: Churchville-Chili Saints vs. Penfield Patriots

The Churchville-Chili Saints will head out to take on the Penfield Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Churchville-Chili's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Penfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Churchville-Chili is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Webster Schroeder just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 1-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Saints were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Penfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brighton.

Joey Bianchi was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Penfield's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 3-1 (and 2-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Matt Scibienski, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Churchville-Chili's loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Penfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.

Everything went Churchville-Chili's way against Penfield when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Churchville-Chili made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
