Softball Game Preview: Whitney Wildcats vs. Pioneer Titans

Whitney is 2-8 against Pioneer since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wildcats will challenge the Titans at 3:15 p.m. Whitney has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Whitney is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Cerritos on Tuesday. They came up short against the Dons, falling 14-2.

Meanwhile, Pioneer never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Glenn as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Pioneer is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Whitney, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Whitney suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Pioneer in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
