Basketball Recap: Summit Tigers vs. Basalt Longhorns

The Summit Tigers came into Saturday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Basalt 60-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Summit has posted since January 4th.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emilio Jain, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Eduardo Gutierrez was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Basalt lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Wyatt Loomis. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with two steals. That was a full 36.8% of Basalt's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zealand Lane, who scored 16 points.

The win got Summit back to even at 9-9. As for Basalt, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit will take on the Skiers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aspen is looking to tack on another W to their nine-game streak on the road. As for Basalt, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Steamboat Springs is ranked 132nd, while the Longhorns are ranked 146th).
