Softball Game Preview: Union County Fightin' Tigers vs. Lafayette Hornets

The Union County Fightin' Tigers will face off against the Lafayette Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Union County came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-2 to Branford. The loss continues a trend for the Fightin' Tigers in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now lost five in a row.

Union County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Courtney Manning, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Lafayette came up short against Santa Fe on Friday, falling 13-4. The loss was the Hornets' first of the season.

Ella McAdams made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. Kambry Moseley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Union County now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Lafayette, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-1.

Union County was able to grind out a solid victory over Lafayette in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 10-6. Will Union County repeat their success, or does Lafayette have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
