Baseball Recap: Bellevue West Comes Up Short

Bellevue West dropped their record down to 16-8 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Millard West Wildcats by a score of 3-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 two weeks ago.

Drew Grego was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

As for Millard West, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.3 runs across that stretch.

On Millard West's side, Dylan Swiercek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

On the hitting side, Millard West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Blackman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Landon Horst also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
