Softball Game Preview: Gloucester Dukes vs. Jefferson Forest Cavaliers

The Gloucester Dukes will face off against the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers at 1:30 a.m. on Friday. Gloucester is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Gloucester is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let King George get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. Give the Dukes' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's 11th straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Jefferson Forest waltzed into their match on Tuesday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. Everything went their way against the Spartans as they made off with an 8-0 win. Considering the Cavaliers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jefferson Forest got a great performance from Amelia Long as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. Long has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ashleigh Johnson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Taya Hall, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Gloucester's victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 14.2 runs thus far. As for Jefferson Forest, their win bumped their record up to 20-1.
