The Timberline Wolves will be playing at home against the Bonneville Bees at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Timberline has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight defeats, while Bonneville will come in with three straight victories.
Timberline's tournament run continued when they took on Pocatello on Friday. Timberline took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pocatello.
Vinny Peters was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Timberline saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dallin Welch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Welch snagged this season. Everett Lynn was another, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Bonneville got the win against Meridian on Friday by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Bees have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Carter Bowen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Greyson Martin and Coltan Spagnuolo did most of the damage at the plate: Martin scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Spagnuolo scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Gavin Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Bonneville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Timberline's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Bonneville, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Timberline was able to grind out a solid victory over Bonneville in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, winning 7-3. Does Timberline have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bonneville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
