Basketball Recap: Pine Crest Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ethan Mott and Rowan Hoffman

After flying high against Don Soffer Aventura last Thursday, Pine Crest came back down to earth. The Pine Crest Panthers lost 78-58 to the North Broward Prep Eagles on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Rowan Hoffman and Ethan Mott certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Hoffman dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Mott posted 20 points and seven boards. Hoffman is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Kareem Khouri was another key player, putting up five points.

North Broward Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Smith, who went 7 of 13 en route to 22 points and seven rebounds. Those 22 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luigi Borio, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards.

Pine Crest's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for North Broward Prep, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-11.

Pine Crest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-43 victory against Benjamin on the 24th. As for North Broward Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-66 win against Miami Country Day on the 24th.
