Basketball Game Preview: Fernandina Beach Pirates vs. Paxon School For Advanced Studies Golden Eagles

The Fernandina Beach Pirates will face off against the Paxon School For Advanced Studies Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fernandina Beach will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Last Monday, Fernandina Beach strolled past Baker County with points to spare, taking the game 64-46. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Wildcats are ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jake Aronowitz was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 14 on his way to 22 points along with six assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Jesse Basse was another key player, going 7 of 11 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Fernandina Beach was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Paxon School For Advanced Studies was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 43-39 to Beachside. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Paxon School For Advanced Studies' loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Fernandina Beach, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
