Baseball Game Preview: South Pointe Stallions vs. York Cougars

South Pointe is 1-9 against York since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Stallions will host the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Thursday, South Pointe got the win against Richland Northeast by a conclusive 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Stallions, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Parker Wetherbee was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. South Pointe is 3-1 when Wetherbee posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Hood, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

South Pointe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, York unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 16-12 to Clover.

Larson Montgomery was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Landon Ayers, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for South Pointe and bumps their season record up to 4-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for York, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

South Pointe couldn't quite finish off York when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Stallions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
