Softball Recap: Quincy Comes Up Short

Quincy dropped their record down to 10-18 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Rock Island Rocks, falling 14-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rocks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 back in April.

Avary Hlubek was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kasey Leenerts was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

As for Rock Island, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Rock Island's side, they got a massive performance out of Mallory Hudnall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Hudnall a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella DeJonghe, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Quincy will welcome Augusta Southeastern at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rock Island, they will take on Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
