Basketball Recap: Kris Skibola's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Martin Luther over Maspeth

Martin Luther saw some tournament action on Friday. They fell to the Maspeth Argos 78-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (64), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

Martin Luther lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kris Skibola, who went 9 of 19 en route to 25 points. Skibola's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damien Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds.

Martin Luther's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Maspeth, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Martin Luther won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Renaissance at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Martin Luther is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 78.7 points per game this season. After both having extra time off, Maspeth and Middle College will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
