Lakeland entered their tilt with West Scranton on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Invaders with a sharp 35-14 victory. The Chiefs pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Invaders cut but never quite recovered from.
Lakeland had a senior duo take command as David Naniewicz rushed for 97 yards and one score on only 13 carries and Gavin Roberts rushed for 107 yards on only nine carries. Roberts got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 54 yards. Rocco Spataro made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Lakeland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 171 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Lakeland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Naniewicz, Jackson Pochas, and Spataro picked up one apiece. Spataro got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Lakeland's record is now 8-1. As for West Scranton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland will challenge Mid Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Scranton, they will take on Honesdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Invaders will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.67 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
