Softball Game Preview: Murphysboro Red Devils vs. Carbondale Terriers

Murphysboro is 1-8 against Carbondale since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Terriers at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Murphysboro fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Centralia on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Orphans by a score of 5-4.

Macie Cunningham made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Carbondale's offense. They came up short against Red Bud on Wednesday, falling 10-0. Considering the last time the Terriers couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.

Murphysboro's defeat dropped their record down to 7-19. As for Carbondale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
