Softball Game Preview: Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) Stallions vs. Palm Beach Gardens Gators

After both having extra time off, the Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) Stallions and the Palm Beach Gardens Gators will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Last Thursday, Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) beat St. Brendan 7-3.

Ava Stevens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brigitte Valdera was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Taylor Rebhan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Valdera wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Palm Beach Gardens' offense. They lost 6-0 to Doral Academy last Thursday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Gators were not able to get on the board.

Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Palm Beach Gardens, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-4.

Both Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) and Palm Beach Gardens just can't seem to miss. Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Palm Beach Gardens struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits.
