League recap: Weslaco scores huge upset over McAllen Memorial

5A Region IV District 31 recap Sept. 26, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Weslaco, who took down 594th ranked McAllen Memorial, 35-15.

Manny Mancillas and Jaime Borrego provided fans with a highlight when they connected against San Benito. The connection went for 74 yards, the longest such play in 5A Region IV District 31 this season.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mancillas threw for 185 and one touchdown and Borrego had 138 yards receiving. On the ground Mancillas chipped in 37 yards. Robert Rodriguez helped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's passing attack out by catching two balls for 21 yards.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Wolverines feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Mancillas has thrown for 719 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Borrego has 22 catches for 438 yards. Rodriguez leads the league in rushing with 364 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rowe takes on the Greyhounds. As it stands, the Warriors are in fourth, while San Benito is in second.

The Mustangs were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in 5A Region IV District 31. Earlier in the week, McAllen Memorial triumphed over McAllen Memorial 35-15.
