Basketball Game Preview: Covington Trojans vs. Faith Christian Eagles

The Covington Trojans will face off against the Faith Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Covington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on North Vermillion with a sharp 72-46 victory. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Covington's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Stein, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 assists. Those 13 assists gave Stein a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Creux Rieman, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 18 points and four steals.

Stein wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Covington was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Faith Christian's strategy against North White on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Faith Christian blew North White out of the water with a 58-25 final score. That 33 point margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Faith Christian and bumps their season record up to 6-17. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points over those games. As for Covington, their record now sits at 12-13.

Covington couldn't quite finish off Faith Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 57-54. Can Covington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
