Basketball Game Preview: Dieterich Movin Maroons vs. Cumberland Pirates

The Dieterich Movin Maroons are taking a road trip to face off against the Cumberland Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Dieterich is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Webber: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Dieterich blew Webber out of the water with a 65-30 final score. The Movin Maroons pushed the score to 52-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans had little chance of recovering from.

Meanwhile, Cumberland had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They blew past the Blue Devils 69-28. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Dieterich is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. As for Cumberland, their win bumped their record up to 20-9.

Dieterich skirted past Cumberland 66-63 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dieterich since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
