Basketball Game Preview: Stillwater Ponies vs. Shakopee Sabers

After both having extra time off, the Stillwater Ponies and the Shakopee Sabers will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Stillwater's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Shakopee has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Stillwater is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 66 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Andover last Friday. They fell 10-2 to the Huskies. The game marked the Ponies' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Shakopee came up short against Prior Lake last Friday and fell 51-44. While losing is never fun, the Sabers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Lakers are ranked 19th).

Shakopee's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Stillwater, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.

Stillwater took their victory against Shakopee in their previous matchup back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 73-48. Will Stillwater repeat their success, or does Shakopee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
