Football Recap: Cook Hornets vs. Irwin County Indians
Cook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 48-33 fall against the Irwin County Indians. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2020.
Irwin County had a senior duo take command as Luke Snyder rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries and Shane Marshall gained 193 total yards and two touchdowns. Marshall's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 114 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Cook's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Irwin County, the victory for them keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Cook will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pierce County at 7:30 p.m. on October 4th. As for Irwin County, they will host Clinch County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Irwin County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 point or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Clinch County likes a good challenge.
