Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Montgomery Mustangs vs. Craig County Rockets

Eastern Montgomery is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Craig County Rockets at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastern Montgomery has three straight wins, Craig County has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Eastern Montgomery made easy work of Roanoke Catholic and carried off a 15-2 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cam Sutphin was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maze Cox, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Craig County lost 15-5 to Bland County two weeks ago.

Luke Potter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Craig County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Eastern Montgomery, their win bumped their record up to 3-0-1.

Eastern Montgomery was able to grind out a solid victory over Craig County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastern Montgomery since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
