Softball Game Preview: Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians vs. Centralia Orphans

Carlyle has won four straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Centralia has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Indians/Lady Indians will host the Orphans at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Carlyle got their first taste of in-conference action on Thursday and they started things off strong. They blew past Sparta 16-1.

Ava Meyer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Meyer was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kyra Beckemeyer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Rolfingsmeyer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Carlyle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sparta only posted an OBP of .316.

Meanwhile, Centralia's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They didn't even let Cahokia on the board, marking the Orphans' second-straight 16-0 shutout.

Centralia's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Carlyle, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
