Matt Jones - ranked as the
No. 23 player in the nation by CBS/MaxPreps recruiting analyst Tom Lemming - will miss from four to six weeks of the football season due to knee surgery, according to the Tampa Tribune.
Jones is believed to have suffered a slight tear in his right meniscus during a July football camp at the University of Central Florida. Following an MRI on Thursday, officials decided to order arthroscopic surgery for the young star.
That means Jones will miss the nationally-televised season opener against
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) on Aug. 26.
The powerful 6-foot-3, 215-pounder, who has committed to the University of Florida, ran for 1,300 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior. He also caught 11 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns.
