Softball Recap: Mira Costa Comes Up Short

Mira Costa extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-18 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Redondo Union Sea Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sea Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 back in March.

As for Redondo Union, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For Redondo Union's part, the team relied heavily on Maika Dumas, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Nanea Nelson was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one double.

Looking ahead, Mira Costa will head out to take on Venice at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gondoliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Redondo Union, they will be playing at home against Santa Monica at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Sea Hawks 2.2, the Vikings 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
