Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Portage's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Conemaugh Township typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Portage proved too difficult a challenge. They managed a 44-40 win over the Conemaugh Township Indians. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Indians last Monday, they had to take a 61-58 loss.

Leading Portage to victory were Owen Gouse and Trae Kargo. Gouse went 7 for 15 en route to 17 points, while Kargo went 7 of 17 on his way to 19 points. The game was Kargo's third in a row with at least ten points.

Conemaugh Township's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Matera, who posted seven points along with 12 boards and five assists. The dominant performance gave Matera a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Dinyar, who put up 12 points and eight rebounds.

Portage is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Conemaugh Township, their loss ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-5.
