Baseball Game Preview: Millard South Patriots vs. Burke Bulldogs

Millard South is 8-2 against Burke since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Millard South will take on Burke at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Millard South barely beat Fremont the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Millard South's pitchers stepped up to hand Fremont a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The Patriots not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18, 2024.

Tyler Albert looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Will Thomas and Jaxson Appuhn did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Appuhn got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Appuhn a new career-high. Logan Wick was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Burke, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Omaha North on Monday.

Sean Holland looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Burke saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Foster, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Millard South skirted past Burke 5-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Millard South since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
