Football Recap: Tough Loss for Ennis

Ennis unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Waxahachie Indians on Friday, falling 72-14. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Indians are ranked seventh).

Although Ennis took the loss, they still got scores from.

Waxahachie got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jerry Meyer III out in front who threw for 400 yards and 6 touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes. The 400 passing yards were his most since September 13, 2024, when he passed for 422 vs. Forney. Jashawn Crayton was another key player, picking up 187 receiving yards and 3 scores.

Ennis' loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Waxahachie, their victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ennis will welcome Midlothian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Waxahachie, they will be playing at home against Coppell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
