Basketball Recap: Marianna Takes a Loss

Marianna lost against Blountstown back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Marianna Bulldogs fell 46-39 to the Blountstown Tigers.

Despite the loss, Marianna saw an underclassman step up: freshman Dessiah Gee went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Shonda Mathis, who posted eight points.

Cyianna Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Blountstown, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Blountstown's points. Another player making a difference was Jill Davis, who put up nine points in addition to six assists and five steals.

Marianna's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Blountstown, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-3.

Marianna wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-13 loss against Rutherford on the 30th. As for Blountstown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-14 win against Liberty County on the 3rd.
