Baseball Preview: Robinson Knights vs. Sumner Stingrays
The Robinson Knights will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Sumner Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Friday, it was close, but Robinson sidestepped Plant City for a 9-8 victory.
Samuel Hyman made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Hyman has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Hyman was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Santiago Rojas looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Brady Capps was incredible, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. Another player making a difference was Maddox Thomas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Sumner waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Patriots 4-2.
Deven Mena was excellent, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base, two RBI, and a double. The team also got some help courtesy of Winston Pennant, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
The victory got Robinson back to even at 11-11. As for Sumner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Robinson skirted past Sumner 7-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Will Robinson repeat their success, or does Sumner have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
