Basketball Preview: Calipatria Hornets vs. Southwest SD Raiders
Calipatria has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Southwest SD Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Calipatria has not done well against the Wildcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Calipatria walked away with a 53-40 win over the Wildcats.
Meanwhile, Southwest SD entered their tilt with the Lancers with 14 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 15. Southwest SD simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Lancers 84-41 at home. Southwest SD has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 games by 20 points or more this season.
Calipatria pushed their record up to 18-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Southwest SD, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-2 record this season.
Calipatria ended up a good deal behind the Raiders in their previous matchup back in February of 2019, losing 58-40. Can Calipatria avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
