The Southside Southerners will square off against the Lonoke Jackrabbits at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Southside 3.4, Lonoke 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Southside came out on top against Trumann two weeks ago thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Southerners walked away with an 8-4 win over the Wildcats. The Southerners haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Chaney McCance, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Leslie Crenshaw, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lonoke had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jackrabbits have posted since March 15th.
Kendra Terry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kirsten Holt was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaniya Jackson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Lonoke always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Des Arc only posted an OBP of .389.
Lonoke's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southside, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Southside came up short against Lonoke when the teams last played back in March, falling 5-0. Will the Southerners have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
