Alleghany skates past James River with ease

Recap: Alleghany Cougars vs. James River Knights
The Alleghany Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season. They blew past James River 54-20 on the road. Given Alleghany's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while James River is ranked 229th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, James River saw an underclassman step up: Jalen Thompson scored two points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Alleghany's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for James River, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alleghany will square off against Patrick County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Patrick County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for James River, they will head out on the road to face off against Carroll County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
