Basketball Recap: Deltona Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Deltona can now relate to. They were dealt a 78-30 defeat at the hands of the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Barracudas are ranked 16th).

Deltona's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kelsey Assent, who posted 11 points. Frantashia Williams was another key player, putting up eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Smyrna Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Iniya Reddicks, who went 6 of 7 en route to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Reddicks is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Corrin Austell, who went 6 for 7 to rack up 15 points along with seven assists and three steals.

Deltona's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for New Smyrna Beach, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-5.

Deltona does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Smyrna Beach, they have already played their next match, a 56-48 win against Gateway on the 8th.
