Basketball Recap: Somonauk Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Somonauk, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 54-37 win over the Newark Norsemen on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 40-16 back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Newark still got an impressive performance from Reggie Chapman, who went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Austin Reibel, who posted six points.

Somonauk's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-14. As for Newark, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 13-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somonauk will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Illinois Math & Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 11th. Newark also won't see the court for a while: their next matchup is against Sandwich at 6:45 p.m. on February 12th.
