Soccer Game Preview: Clinton vs. Rock Island

The Clinton River Kings will head out to challenge the Rock Island Rocks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clinton's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for ten straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Clinton fell victim to Pleasant Valley and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 11-0.

Meanwhile, Rock Island didn't have quite enough to beat Galesburg on Tuesday and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, Rock Island can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Galesburg are ranked 159th).

Rock Island's goal came courtesy of Isabella Spurgetis, which was the first she's scored this season.

Rock Island's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Clinton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9-1.

Clinton couldn't quite get it done against Rock Island in their previous meeting back in May of 2019 as they fell 3-1. Can the River Kings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
