Basketball Recap: Booker Victorious

Booker posted their closest win since January 18, 2024 on Monday. They skirted past the Sickles Gryphons 67-65. Given the Tornadoes' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Gryphons are ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Yvette Brown was her usual excellent self, going 13 for 18 en route to 26 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Behn, who posted seven points along with eight rebounds and six steals.

Booker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sickles only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.

Sickles lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kelsey Sharpe, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten steals. The matchup was Sharpe's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Watts, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards.

Booker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Sickles, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-7.

Booker has already played their next contest, a 73-45 victory against Charlotte on the 21st. As for Sickles, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-39 win against Wharton on the 21st.
