Basketball Recap: Newport - Bellevue Knights vs. Sammamish RedHawks
Newport - Bellevue was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 44-37 to the Sammamish RedHawks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-42 back in January.
Despite the loss, Newport - Bellevue still got an impressive performance from Portia Polo, who posted 20 points and six boards. That was a full 54.1% of Newport - Bellevue's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Lily Ketchum was another key player, putting up seven points.
Sammamish was led to victory by Sophia Eastman and Essie Hemnes. Eastman went 7 for 11 on her way to 21 points and six rebounds, while Hemnes earned six points in addition to six steals and five boards. That's the most steals Hemnes has posted since back in February of 2024.
Newport - Bellevue's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Sammamish, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-12 record.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport - Bellevue will head out to challenge Eastlake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sammamish, they will venture away from home to square off against Inglemoor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
