Baseball Recap: Prairie Central Hawks vs. Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs
With a playoff win on the line, Prairie Central rose to the challenge on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.
Collin Hartman made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Hartman wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lane Whitfil, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Prairie Central's record now sits at 8-23. As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, they now have a losing record of 15-16.
Prairie Central will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mt. Pulaski at 1:00 p.m. on June 29. Deer Creek-Mackinaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
