League recap: Downing throws longest pass in league this season for First Assembly Christian

Bobby Downing and Cody Stark provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Tipton-Rosemark Academy. The connection was good for 76 yards, the longest such play in Division II A - West District 1 this season.

First Assembly Christian's Kortney Morris rumbled for the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against the Rebels last week. Morris ran for 85 yards on the play and finished with 202 on the day as his team beat Tipton-Rosemark Academy.

First Assembly Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Downing threw for 135 and two touchdowns and Stark had 101 yards receiving. Patrick Kelly helped First Assembly Christian's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 67 yards.

Grant Kimberlin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Southern Baptist fell to University School of Jackson. The 5-foot-9 junior grabbed two interceptions.

Southern Baptist's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Pk Pearson has thrown for 660 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Kimberlin has 26 catches for 380 yards. Dylan Crouch leads the league in rushing with 256 yards.

A big matchup in Division II A - West District 1 this week will be when Robby Donaldson's team takes on Harding Academy. The Crusaders are in third place, while the Lions are in first place.

Evangelical Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Eagles defeated Jackson Christian 35-0.
