Basketball Recap: Kelsi Maier's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoisington over Larned

After flying high against Kinsley last Tuesday, Hoisington came back down to earth. The Hoisington Cardinals took a 55-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Larned Indians on Friday. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kelsi Maier, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Maier a new career-high in rebounds. Kinley Wilkens was another key player, putting up ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Hoisington now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Larned, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-0.

Hoisington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-55 win against Bucklin on the 14th. As for Larned, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-35 loss against Holcomb on the 14th.
