Basketball Recap: Mitchell County Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Mitchell County lost against Pelham two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mitchell County Eagles took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pelham Hornets. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Mitchell County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adrianna Burke went 8 of 14 en route to 20 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Akiria Sessions, who posted six points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Mitchell County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Pelham's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ja'Kieria Frazier, who put up 20 points and seven steals. Frazier has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Akaya Pollard, who earned 12 points and three steals.

Mitchell County's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-11. As for Pelham, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mitchell County has already played their next game (against Randolph-Clay), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pelham is taking a road trip to face off against Quitman County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
