Softball Game Preview: Legacy Tigers vs. Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears

The Legacy Tigers will square off against the Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Legacy comes in on ten and Port of Los Angeles on 15.

Legacy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over Garfield. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly four runs.

Savannah Medina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Priscilla Medina was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabella Medina, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Port of Los Angeles was able to grind out a solid victory over Eagle Rock on Thursday, taking the game 5-1.

Jimena Vargas was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Abigail Bazan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Port of Los Angeles pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Legacy, their win bumped their record up to 23-7.

Legacy suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Port of Los Angeles when the teams last played back in March of 2016. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
