Baseball Recap: Milford Comes Up Short

Milford extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Odessa Ducks. The Buccaneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Ducks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Odessa, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

For Odessa's part, Dylan Schimpf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Odessa let Spencer Flayhart and Gunner Whitehead run wild. Flayhart went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Whitehead went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Odessa is undefeated when Flayhart posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise. Owen Mease also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Milford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Odessa, they will head out on the road to square off against St. Georges Tech at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
