Baseball Game Preview: Mallard Creek Mavericks vs. Charlotte Latin Hawks

The Mallard Creek Mavericks will take on the Charlotte Latin Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mallard Creek has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Charlotte Latin will come in with 12 straight wins.

David Victoria was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Mallard Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-12 when he doesn't). Cohen Wright also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Charlotte Latin made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Mecklenburg on Monday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 13-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Graham Blanton looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Booker was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Hawa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Charlotte Latin pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Mallard Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.

Mallard Creek couldn't quite finish off Charlotte Latin when the teams last played back in April of 2022 and fell 6-4. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
