Softball Game Preview: Columbus Grove Bulldogs vs. Ottoville Big Green

For the first time this season, Columbus Grove will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will take on the Ottoville Big Green at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ottoville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Columbus Grove, who comes in off a win.

Columbus Grove is headed out to face Ottoville after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Columbus Grove was the clear victor by a 19-9 margin over McComb on Tuesday.

Dakota Dunn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Dunn was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Zoey Patchet and Layla Bendele did most of the damage at the plate: Patchet scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Bendele scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Caidynce Schnipke was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Ottoville kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against Ottawa-Glandorf, falling 11-1. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 12 in a row.

Columbus Grove took their victory against Ottoville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbus Grove since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
