Softball Recap: Sunnyslope Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Sunnyslope had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost 16-6 to the Perry Pumas. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.

Sydney Benavidez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Udall, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Sunnyslope was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

The win was the third in a row for Perry, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Sunnyslope will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Shadow Ridge at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Perry will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Williams Field at 3:45 p.m. on March 17th. Perry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
