Basketball Recap: Fruita Monument Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Fruita Monument came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.4 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Palisade Bulldogs 51-33. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 44-26 back in January.

Leading Fruita Monument to victory were Daniel Thomason and Jhett Wells. Thomason went 7-for-9 en route to 17 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Wells went 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points and five assists. Thomason is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 47% in the last 27 games he's played dating back to last season. Josh Huskey was another key player, putting up eight points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Fruita Monument was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palisade only posted seven assists.

Palisade's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hunter Howard, who posted seven points. Another player making a difference was Aidan Shiao, who had six points.

Fruita Monument's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. As for Palisade, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.

Looking ahead, Fruita Monument will be playing at home against Montrose at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. Fruita Monument is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season. As for Palisade, they have already played their next match, a 63-52 win against Coal Ridge on the 18th.
