Basketball Recap: Kyle Owen Key Part of a Team Effort in Angels Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Incarnate Word Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Annapolis Christian Academy Warriors by a score of 49-42. The Angels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Incarnate Word Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyle Owen, who went 8 of 12 en route to 19 points and seven boards. The match was Owen's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Cory, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jake Gwaltney, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Gwaltney has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Joaquin Ford was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Incarnate Word Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Annapolis Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Incarnate Word Academy will venture away from home to square off against Geneva at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Incarnate Word Academy comes in on three and Geneva on six. As for Annapolis Christian Academy, they will square off against Lifegate Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Annapolis Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season.
